Israel: I bet you did not know this: A biblical view versus the modern myth

American Christians hold many strange views concerning the modern state of Israel and her place in the supposed "plan of God."
Here I present just a few examples of  perverted ideas that at one time may have been useful for one reason or another, but that have outlived their helpfulness:

#1. American Christian Myth: Israel is "a Jewish State."

The truth: No, Israel is not a Jewish state. The demographics reveal a different reality In fact, like many modern nations, including America, Israel is a "homeland" for many races and religions, including Jews and others as well.  Israel's religions include Christian, Muslim, Bahia and many other faiths.

#2. American Christian Myth: God gives Palestine to the Jews and to the Jews alone.

The "truth" according to the bible:  "But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God." (Leviticus 19:34)

#3. American Christian Myth: God will automatically put down any person or any nation that opposes Israel's injustices.

The "truth" according to a biblical view: God actually raises up foreign nations to punish Israel for her wickedness. Israel's blessing was always tied to conditions, including piety and justice for the poor, among other things. (Those nations may in turn be punished later, according to the biblical view.)

#4. American Christian Myth: Because Israel is "God's chosen People,' she can do no wrong:

The "truth" according to a biblical view is somewhat more complicated: God hates sins, no matter what nation commits them: Proverbs 6:16-19 "There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, read more.A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers."

#5. American Christian Myth: Christians and Jews worship an identical God, while Muslims worship a different God.

The truth: (1) Jews themselves do not accept a Trinity or  threefold Godhead. (2) Jews and Muslims alike accept that there is only one God and that he is undivided: He can never be a man or come in the form of a man. (3) All three claim to be Abrahamic faiths, but Jews and Muslims are more alike in their theological notion of the nature of God than, say, Christians compared to Jews.

#6. American Christian Myth: God loves Jews but plans to exterminate Muslims as idolaters: .
The "truth" according to Jewish theologians: According to most Jewish thinkers, Islam is not idolatry. [This does not mean that they like Islam, of course.]  (Source: http://www.myjewishlearning.com/beliefs/Issues/Jews_and_Non-Jews/Attitudes_Toward_Non-Jews/Islam.shtml)

#7. American Christian Myth: Israel is a great nation primarily because of God's blessing, while Palestinians are poor because they are lazy and indolent. .

The reality: In today's dollars, the US aid to Israel totals $234 billion since 1948. Needless to say, if a similar amount had been donated to Palestinians or any Mideast nation, the political economic equation in the region would look far different today.

In conclusion: Modern American Christianity proclaims loudly, sometimes stubbornly, that Israel is a race that can do no wrong, chosen by God to inherit all of Palestine. The truth is, Israel was chosen by the British and American governments to keep potential enemies preoccupied. This scheme does seem to have worked to some degree although at a cost that some might consider extravagant [See number seven above.]

I love all child refugees but … where will the money come from? Part III

Quote from a Facebook friend:

“Much as my heart breaks for the children who want to come here because circumstances are better … circumstances will not be better here if we allow more people to live here than we can afford to support.”

So says one of my Facebook friends.

Climate change versus American business: An armchair analysis

My armchair analysis and predictions: Climate change will be impossible to deny, especially if governments don't take actions to address it soon. A lot of people may be hurt or killed, whether in natural events or in human conflicts. Those living in regions that are less affected by climate extremes will be asked to foot the bills, so it is going to hit everyone but especially those who doe not have tremendous power or leverage over Congress and the military. Below are three scenarios of how I think things might go down. (Let me know what you think will happen.)
